When ऊ (uu / long oo) attaches to a consonant, it uses the matra ू — a longer hook written below the consonant. Compare with ु (short उ): ू has a bigger, longer curve.
Examples on different consonants:
- क + ू = कू ('koo')
- फ + ू = फू ('phoo')
- द + ू = दू ('doo')
Words using ू:
- फूल ('phool') — Flower
- दूध ('doodh') — Milk
- भूमि ('bhoomi') — Earth / Land
- सूरज ('suraj') — Sun
- जूता ('joota') — Shoe
