PV work combines construction hazards (ladders, roofs, tools, weather) with electrical hazards (shock, arc flash). A safe installer builds a repeatable routine:
PPE is the last line of defense. Typical PV PPE may include:
- Eye protection (impact-rated)
- Gloves matched to the hazard (cut-resistant vs. electrical-rated)
- Hard hat (jobsite dependent)
- Hearing protection (when using loud tools)
- High-visibility clothing (traffic/active sites)
- Appropriate footwear (slip-resistant; often safety toe)
Heat, wind, rain, and lightning materially change risk. If conditions exceed safe limits, the safest decision is to pause work.
